Google Lecture and Workshop on New Women’s Skills

2012年7月11日更新

On Wednesday, July 11, the Ochanomizu University Chapter of Study for Two held a Google lecture and workshop titled “New Women’s Skills” as part of the activities of the university’s Living Together in a Global Community Study Group. Study for Two is a student organization that provides support for children’s education in Laos using proceeds from the sale of used textbooks. Its Ochanomizu University Chapter has joined the Study Group since April this year. The July 11 event drew 27 students.

For some people, the words “women’s skills” may call to mind attributes like tact and a flair for cooking. But the event conceived with the idea of helping women develop the new skills they need to launch and sustain global careers and to navigate today’s information and communications technology with confidence, regardless of their academic background.

The event was divided into two parts. In the first part, Senior Marketing Manager Negoro at Google Japan spoke about the rewards of a career in a global corporation and the challenges women face in their work. The Q&A session that followed was very lively with the students eagerly asking many questions. In the second part, under the tutelage of Google Local Marketing Manager Yoshihara , participants had an opportunity to learn about and try their hand at tools like Google Plus, Google Docs, Instant Upload, and Gmail.

Participants in the event were asked to donate textbooks they no longer needed to the Ochanomizu University Chapter of Study for Two, which will be selling those books beginning next term. We would like to thank all involved for their cooperation.
