OIC♥ Cooking Project: Recipe for International Exchange

2012年10月17日更新

On Wednesday, October 17, the Ochanomizu University Chapter of STUDY FOR TWO held the OIC♥ (pronounced as Oishii) Cooking Project as an activity of the “Living Together in a Global Society” Study Group. Study for Two is a student organization that collects and sells used textbooks on campus to benefit children’s education in Laos, and the Ochanomizu Chapter has been active since April 2012 as a member of the “Living Together in a Global Society” Study Group.

The October event, organized around the theme of sushi, drew 35 international and Japanese participants. Together they prepared and enjoyed a meal of rolled sushi, clear soup, and a dessert of rice-flour dumplings. Ochanomizu University has a relatively large percentage of international students, yet we have few opportunities for interaction. By promoting international exchange via cooking, we are hoping to address that situation and contribute in our own way to global intercultural understanding. Besides, cooking with other people is so much fun! Out of 28 participants who completed the feedback survey, 27 agreed that the project was “great fun” and indicated that they would like to take part again.

Participants in the October cooking event were asked to donate any unneeded textbooks. We plan to sell the donated books at its campus textbook sale scheduled for the spring of 2013. Our sincere thanks to everyone involved.
