Fostering young researchers who push their own research and organizing abilities

In 2007, Ochanomizu University started to conduct a new program which fosters young researchers actively working in the international environment.
A goal "to raise female researchers' employment rate by 25% in all the nature science fields in 5 years" was set in the 3rd stage of "Basic Program for Science and Technology". And this program is aiming to realise it as well as to promote Japan's international competitiveness and academic status by fostering young researchers under a self-supporting environment.

A total of 40.0% of our professors which includes professors, associate professors and assistant professors are female. And in the natural science field only, the percentage of the female professors is 30.1%. Those who earned Ph.D. from our graduate school have been appointed to tenure posts at many other universities and institutions and contributed to increasing the number of female researchers and professors inside and outside of Japan. Based on this achievement, we propose reforming the model of human resource system to reinforce the international competitiveness, as well as to foster young researchers who have the ability to actively work under the international environment specially in progressing research fields.

The project is conducted as "a program which promotes to maintain self-supported research environments for young researchers" (from the academic year 2007 to 2011) funded by the Special Coordination Funds for Promoting Science and Technology.
