International Student Symposium_FY2023

International Student Symposium of the EDI Program_FY2023

EDI Program held the International Student Symposium on Wednesday, January 17, 2024 from 13:20-16:40 at Ochanomizu University, Inter-Faculty Building 2, Room 20. The symposium featured opening remarks by Trustee and Vice President Ishii-Kuntz Masako, student final report, and closing remarks by EDI Project Lecturer Misako Hirano. 

Under the following program, first-term students(5 Ochanomizu University students, 8 international students)gave their final presentations in English, reviewing their study abroad experiences, global internships and the summer program in the EDI program. The Ochanomizu students presented their learning experiences related to EDI (Equity, Diversity, Inclusion), reflecting on their experiences of studying abroad in the partner-universities in the UK, Canada, and Australia. The international students who came to study in Tokyo at Ochanomizu University from July 2023 to January 2024 reflected on their experiences of the seven months and gave the presentations on the promotion of cultural diversity in the international community. There were Q&A sessions after the each 5-minute student presentations in which the students actively asked questions each other. Finaly, 4 students (2 Ochanomizu students and 2 international students) who participated in the long-term internship program of English education at the Ochanomizu Elementary School gave a presentation regarding the experiences of the internship. The English teacher from the elementary school gave a comment. In total, 33 participants (including 11 Ochanomizu students, 8 international students, 3 company representatives, and 11 faculty members) participated in the international student symposium.

International Student Symposium_FY2024

International Student Symposium of the EDI Program_FY2024

EDI Program held the International Student Symposium on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, from 15:00-16:35 at Ochanomizu University, Hisao & Hiroko TAKI PLAZA, Multipurpose room. The symposium featured opening remarks by Vice President Ishii-Kuntz Masako, student final report, and closing remarks by EDI Project Lecturer Misako Hirano.  

Under the following program, second-term students(8 Ochanomizu University students) gave their final presentations in English, reviewing their study abroad experiences, global internships and the summer program in the EDI program. Global Internship_FY2024

EDI Program Global Internship Presentations_FY2024

From 15:00 until 18:00 on Thursday, November 14, 2024, the EDI program held a Global Internship Presentation at Ochanomizu University. The debriefing session consisted of opening remarks by Dr. Ishii-Kuntz Masako, the Trustee and Vice President of Ochanomizu University, reports in English by EDI Program participating students (19 Ochanomizu University students which included 4 online participants), feedback by representatives of 8 internship host companies, and closing remarks by EDI Program Lecturer, Misako Hirano. With the cooperation of various departments on campus, a total of 52 people attended the session, including students participating in the EDI program, people from companies, external lecturers in charge of pre-departure training, faculty members, and auditing students.

Ochanomizu students and international students participating in the EDI program gave presentations in English on their activities at eight companies where they have conducted global internships. During the 2-week short-term internship, many EDI (Equity, Diversity, Inclusion) issues were discussed, including gender disparities, establishing inclusiveness such as supporting people with disabilities, environmental protection, and urban development. After each 10-minute presentation, the representatives of each company commented on the students' activities. The students' participation and cooperation were generally highly evaluated, leading to the establishment of a cooperative framework for the next year's global internship program.

International Student Symposium ・Kickoff Symposium

Kickoff symposium

 The Kickoff Symposium for the "Women's University-led Practical EDI Program for Cultivating Global Leaders," funded by the Fiscal Year 2023 University Education Revitalization Strategy Promotion Fund under the "Enhancement of Universities' Global Engagement Capability Project," and the International Student Symposium were held at Ochanomizu University on March 24th (Friday) and 25th (Saturday), 2023. The symposium was attended by six faculty members and seven students from partner universities (partner institutions) abroad, including the University of East Anglia (UK), University of Technology Sydney (Australia), and Brescia University (Canada). Additionally, faculty members and applicant students associated with this program also participated. The event took place in the multipurpose hall of the International Exchange Student Plaza within our university. Also, considering the time difference with Japan and aiming to disseminate to overseas audiences and domestic universities on demand, the symposium proceedings were recorded with simultaneous interpretation in Japanese and English.

Summer Program

 

Students participating in the EDI program will join a summer program where they will take classes in English alongside international students, focusing on specialized lessons and project execution, thereby acquiting global leadership skills. Summer Program provides intensive courses in summer for students of the partner universities overseas, as well as students of Ochanomizu University and graduate school. All classes are multi-cultural, aiming for students’ career development and promotion of international exchanges. EDI program participants took the lectures of “Gender, Globalization, and Diversity in Contemporary Japan” and Project-Work class. They also had opportunities to join various cultural and exchange events at off-lecture times such as “Kyogen Workshop”, “Kimono Workshop” and “Kawagoe Day Trip”. 
The 2025 Summer Program will be held from July to August.

EDI Program Global Internship Presentations_FY2023

On Wednesday, November 1, 2023, the EDI Program held a Global Internship Presentation at Ochanomizu University. The debriefing session consisted of opening remarks by Dr. Ishii-Kuntz Masako, the Trustee and Vice President of Ochanomizu University, reports in English by EDI Program participating students (9 Ochanomizu University students and 8 international students), feedback by representatives of 8 internship host companies, and closing remarks by EDI Program Lecturer, Misako Hirano. With the cooperation of various departments on campus, a total of 63 people attended the session, including students participating in the EDI program, people from companies, external lecturers in charge of pre-departure training, faculty members, and auditing students.
