  • Absolute beginners who have no prior experience of studying Japanese
  • Students with JLPT N4 / CEFR A2, B1 or the equivalent Capacity

Course Contents

【初級(s) Introductory Class for beginners who have no prior experience of studying Japanese】

  • イラスト学内1The contents of Introductory Class include survival expressions, the review of the two sets of Japanese alphabets (Hiragana and Katakana), and introductory lesson of Kanji characters. You will also learn essential sentence patterns as well as a basic vocabulary of verbs and adjectives. Upon completion of this class, you will be able to communicate in Japanese for simple and practical everyday situations.
    PREREQUISITE: Self-study of Hiragana and Katakana.

【初中級(しょちゅうきゅう) Pre-Intermediate Class for students with JLPT N5 studying for N4 (CEFR A1-A2)】

  • The contents of Pre-Intermediate Class include brushing up especially speaking skills by making speeches and practicing Q&A sessions. Expanding vocabulary and reviewing the grammar you have studied are also included. Upon completion of this class, you will be able to become proficient enough to present a coherent speech on specific topics such as about yourself, your experiences and impressions.

【中級(ちゅうきゅう) Intermediate Class for students with JLPT N4 studying for N3 (CEFR A2-B1)】

  • The contents of Intermediate Class includes improving your oral expression skills through class discussions and interviews on various topics. It also aims to deepen our understanding of contemporary Japan and create opportunities to think about customs and traditions from various perspectives. Upon completing this class, you will become confident in giving a presentation about your research.


    Note:
    * All the students in above 3 classes are expected to participate in the Tokyo excursion class in a group on a weekend as a part of class activities. The details of excursion will be announced here when it is confirmed.
    * All the students in above 3 classes are expected to make a course-end presentation with your group members.

総合日本語サマープログラム Comprehensive Japanese Summer Program(学部生 for undergraduates)】

日本語夏季演習 Summer Seminar of Japanese Language(大学院生 for graduates)】

  • Introductory class for beginners who have no prior experience of studying Japanese
    -The contents of this course include survival expressions, the review of the two sets of Japanese alphabets (Hiragana and Katakana), and introductory lesson of Kanji characters. You will also learn some essential sentence patterns as well as basic vocabulary of verbs and adjectives. Upon completion of this course, you will be able to communicate in Japanese for simple and practical everyday situations.
    PREREQUISITE: Self-study of Hiragana and Katakana.
  • Pre-Intermediate classes for students 
    -The contents of the classes include reviewing the grammar they have studied, and brushing up especially speaking skills. Upon completion of this course, you will be able to describe experiences and impressions, and express your ideas about topics that you are interested in.
    -The students will be divided into the 2 classes whether they have finished studying the grammar of JLPTN4 level.
  • In all classes, students are expected to go out for excursion as a group work in the middle of the course period. The experience and exploration of the excursion are instructed to be a part of the students' final presentation.
  • As an option, Course 2 Project Works (2 credits) can also be taken.
