Ochanomizu University 150th Anniversary Lecture “Urban and Architectural Design and Gendered Innovations”

POSTER In May 2025, the Institute for Gendered Innovations at Ochanomizu University hosted the symposium on the dining kitchen of Miho Hamaguchi, our graduate and the first female architect in Japan, to discuss issues related to Hamaguchi’s works and the historical and social backgrounds which influenced her innovations. Building on this discussion, this special lecture will explore, from a comparative cultural perspective, how the presence of female architects, including Miho Hamaguchi, contributes to the social ecology of architectural design, and how dialogue aimed at creating open spaces can foster gendered innovations.
