In April 2022, Ochanomizu University established the Institute for Gendered Innovations (IGI). To date, much of the academic research and scientific and technological development has been conducted mainly from the male perspective. As a result, these research findings and developed technologies did not always apply to women. Therefore, moving forward, “gendered innovations” must occur. Gendered innovations research and technology development consider gender perspectives, such as differences between men and women in terms of body structure and function, changes associated with aging, and social and cultural influences.
Gendered innovations are required not only in academic research but also in practical applications and real-world problem-solving. Solutions generated through gender perspectives will help create innovations. In addition, fostering female innovators will facilitate the promotion of gender equality and the improvement of the gender gap index. We invite you to participate in gendered innovations via industry–government–academia collaboration to realize a truly fair society.
