The 3rd IGI Seminar IGI Tokyo / Sex & Gender Australia webinar

 This webinar focuses on sex and gender analysis in the field of health. It also aims to build a research network between the Sex and Gender Policies in Health and Medical Research project in Australia and the Institute for Gendered Innovations (IGI) and the Institute for Education and Human Development (IEHD) at Ochanomizu University, Japan. We invite four researchers from Australia and Japan to present their leading-edge research, which will be followed by an open discussion for seeking future collaboration opportunities. It will be casual and conversational.

Presenters

Name: Professor Mika Omori
Title: Psychology and Health

Bio: Mika Omori is a Professor and the Director of the Institute for Education and Human Development, at Ochanomizu University. Her research subjects are psychosocial attributes related to health behaviors, risk perception and health communication. Currently, her research focus is on the impact of thin-ideal internalization on body dissatisfaction and dieting behaviors, health-related behaviors, and emotional regulation.

Name: Dr Briar McKenzie
Title: Incorporating sex and gender into research – Examples from investigating the relationship between diet and cardiovascular disease

Bio: Dr Briar McKenzie is an Accredited Practicing Dietitian and Australian Heart Foundation Postdoctoral Fellow. She is a research fellow within the food policy division at the George Institute. Her main research interests are in understanding how diet can reduce the risk of non-communicable disease, and sex and gender considerations related to disease burden and policy formation and implementation.

Name: Professor Takayuki ITO
Title: Information Visualization for Gender Bias Discovery

Bio: Takayuki Ito is a Professor and the Director of the Center for Interdisciplinary AI and Data Science, at Ochanomizu University. He is engaged in research on “information visualization,” which effectively displays the information that is around us on a computer screen. He has many research achievements in visualization, and these include the fields of science and technology, social issues, human behavior, and music.

Name: Dr Cheryl Carcel
Title: Sex and Gender in Health and Medical Research in Australia

Bio: Dr Cheryl Carcel is a Heart Foundation Postdoctoral Fellow and an NHMRC Emerging Leader Fellowship. She is a neurologist and senior research fellow at The George Institute where she is the academic lead of the Global Brain Health Program and lead of the Sex Differences in Stroke group. Her interests are in sex and gender differences, headache, stroke, acute stroke imaging and translating research into practice.
