The OCHADAI INDEX

As a result of the Support Program for Female Researchers (FY 2006 to 2008), we developed an indicator to evaluate the work environment at education and research institutes. It is used with COSMOS Work Book in order to improve and enhance work environments.

The OCHADAI INDEX

The “Ochadai Index” is an indicator of the initiatives taken by research and educational institutions to create an employment environment in which women can achieve work-life balance and have a fulfilling research life while raising their children.
Each year, we ask research and educational institutions in Japan to self-evaluate their efforts, and we compile the results. By continuously measuring and accumulating these data, the following effects can be expected.

To understand changes in the employment environment of each institution over time.
Provide effective data when planning support activities at each institution.
Serve as reference material for encouraging the upper management of each institution to improve the employment environment.
The results used as a self-assessment can be shared and compared with those of other institutions.
Provide statistical data that will contribute to proposals for the promotion of gender equality in Japan.
