“Working with Language: A Refocused Research Agenda for Cultural Leadership Studies”

Abstract:
In this presentation, I will draw on my research into ways of leading in non-anglophone contexts over the last 20 years to critically evaluate the dominant traditions in cross-cultural research and to suggest ways in which we can work with language in different cultural contexts more closely to overcome existing barriers to understanding culturally specific ways of leading.

Title:

“A Decade of Experience in Leading State-Funded Universities: Priorities in Transformation”

Abstract:
This presentation will focus on a decade of experience as president of two state universities in the Philippines highlighting the priorities of a woman leader in leading an academic institution. The presentation will also discuss facilitating circumstances on how the society allows a woman leader to perform her responsibilities.
17:50-18:10 Makoto KOBAYASHI (Professor, Ochanomizu University / Director of the Institute for Global Leadership)

Title:
“What Is the Meaning of Talking of Asian Woman's Leadership?”

Abstract:
Most conventional leadership models are based on Western and male experiences. Therefore, we must move beyond them and construct a new theory that is sensitive to diversity and reflective of non-Western and female lives. In order to achieve such a task, to what extent is the concept of "Asia" or "woman" relevant? We should take a challenging but smart step towards this goal.
