Japanese Language Course for Beginners

Date and Time of the Courses (Japanese Standard Time)

  • Introductory Class: 19 July 2021-7 August 2021 [3weeks] (※)
    *There are two sessions "OCHA" and "MIZU" for the Introductory Class.
    - Introductory class  "OCHA" will start at 9:00 am on 19 July (JST). For those who will participate in U.S., the first class will start in the evening of 18 July (ETD, CDT, PDT).
    - Introductory class "MIZU" will start at 6:00 pm on 19 July (JST).
     
  • Pre-Intermediate Class: 20 July, 2021-8 August, 2021  [3weeks]
    There is one session for the Pre-intermediate Class. The first class will start at 6:00 pm on 20 July (JST).

Eligibility 

  • Absolute beginners who have no prior experience of studying Japanese
  • Students with JLPT N5, N4 / CEFR A1, A2 or equivalent

Capacity

Up to 15students x 3 classes (total: 45 students) are accepted for the course

Course Contents

【初級(しょきゅう)Introductory Class for beginners who have no prior experience of studying Japanese】

This course is designed for the learners with no prior experience of studying Japanese or Elementary-level learners with limited learning experience. In this course, students will learn survival expressions, essential sentence structures and basic vocabulary that are commonly used in daily life. Brief introduction to Hiragana and Katakana is also included. Upon completion of this course, students will be able to communicate in Japanese using basic expressions. By the end of the course, students will be able to make a presentation with your group members. The topic of the group presentation should be related to what students have experienced/learned during a virtual tour.

【初中級(しょちゅうきゅう)Pre-Intermediate Class for students with JLPT N5 studying for N4 (CEFR A1-A2)】

The aim of this course is to improve speaking skills by making speeches and practicing Q&A sessions. Upon completion of this course, students will be able to create cohesive utterances and express their own experience and thoughts while reviewing grammatical items they have studied and increasing vocabulary. 
At the end of the course, students are required to make a presentation about a virtual tour they participated in.
In the presentation, students are expected to demonstrate their oral skills by explaining what they learned from the tour, their expressions on the tour, etc. (for approximately 7-8 minutes)
