*The seminar is exclusive to the students and faculty staff of Ochanomizu University and the participants of "Ocha Summer Program".

Currently, the international community is developing an international implementation framework for ESD from 2020 to 2030 called “Education for Sustainable Development: Towards achieving the SDGs (ESD for 2030)“ . Meanwhile, in Japan, the number of UNESCO Associated Schools increased rapidly during the UN Decade of ESD (2005- 2014), and the current curriculum guidelines include the development of “creators of a sustainable society” in kindergartens, elementary, junior high and high schools, which is highly expected as a concrete measure for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This Special Lecture will focus on the educational policy and practice of ESD in Japan and clarify the characteristics of Japanese education and its future challenges.
