2023年6月8日更新

This is a report on the activities of the Environment Group from OCHA-SDGs Student Committee in 2022. Twelve student committee members belonged to the group and initiated the following projects.

  • Installation of contact lens case collection boxes
By collecting empty contact lens cases, a material suitable for recycling, as a resource, we aim to reduce CO2 emissions during incineration and disposal.

  • Vegan Study Group
We would like to acquire correct knowledge about veganism, listen to stories of people who practice veganism, and feel familiar with the ideas and eating habits of vegans.

  • Installation of plastic bottle cap collection boxes
To raise students' awareness of waste separation, we planned to encourage recycling of plastic bottle caps.

  • Let's Drink Tap Water PJ

We intend to contribute to plastic reduction by reducing the number of plastic bottles used on campus. To achieve this, we conceived the idea of eliminating resistance to drinking tap water to raise awareness in our immediate surroundings. As part of this campaign, we are considering comparing the water we drink with water from water servers and mineral water. We have also begun to consider installing water servers on campus.
Initially, we also planned the "Let's dig a well project" with the idea of using the underground water that lies dormant at Ochanomizu University, but after checking with the Facilities Division, we found that it was not suitable for drinking and had already been installed on campus for use during disasters, so the student committee members decided to focus this planning on Let's Drink Tap Water PJ.

  • Survey on air conditioning
To change the university's air conditioning system to one that is environmentally friendly and comfortable for Ochanomizu University students, we planned a survey of Ochanomizu University students to determine their opinions on air conditioning.

Compared to the ESD and Food Groups, the above-mentioned plans of the Environment Group required coordination with various stakeholders to realize, and we sometimes keenly felt that it is difficult to implement them. We will try to put these ideas from FY2022 into practice in some form through our activities in FY2023 and beyond.
