Pre-learning for Food Drive was held at the Affiliated Elementary School.
(written by Food Drive PJ, OCHA-SDGs Student Committee)
On September 17 and 24, we visited the home economics class of 6th graders at Ochanomizu University Elementary School to conduct a class of prior learning for food drive.
A food drive is an activity to collect food items that are left at home and deliver them to those in need. Ochanomizu University has been conducting food drives in cooperation with its affiliated schools, from kindergarten to high school.
Before the food drive to be held in October at the affiliated elementary school began, we wanted to let students know well about this activity, so we gave a correct/wrong quiz about the food drive and a report on a visit to Second Harvest Japan (NPO).
In addition, we were able to convey our concept in hosting a food drive, "sharing with others", which implies you should choose foodstuff with the recipient in mind, while of course ensuring that food recovery standards are met.

The students took the class seriously, taking notes, and were more interested in the food drive than before the class. We, university students, were also able to gain new insights from elementary school students and deepen our understanding of food drives.
We hope to apply what we learned in this class to the food drive at the university scheduled for this December.
