OCHA-SDGs Student Committee Member Proposed Plant-Based Food Menu to Co-op Cafeteria

OCHA-SDGs Student Committee members made three plant-based food prototypes with Ochas (an official club of the University) and proposed three items to the Co-op Cafeteria.

In selecting the menu items, the OCHA-SDGs student committee members (Food group) conducted a questionnaire survey on lunch menus served at the Co-op cafeteria on a daily basis. The survey was widely answered by Ochanomizu University students, high school students, and faculty members, and as many as 350 people responded to the survey.

Student committee members borrowed the cafeteria kitchen three times in November and held prototyping sessions with Ochas members. After the Executive of Director of the Co-op tasted the students' prototypes, the cafeteria staffs cooked on their own. And then, the students tasted the final prototypes and gave feedback to the staffs.

After much consultation regarding the quantity, price, and flavor (seasonings), the following two dishes were served at Marche (cafeteria's name) for five days starting on Monday, December 18. (Only during lunch hours from 10:30 to 13:30)

  • Rice Milk Pumpkin Soup(99kcal, 25 servings/day)
  • Sweet and Sour Stir-Fried Soily Balls (205kcal, 40 servings/day)

We expect to offer another plant-based food menu item from January onward. Please wait for further publicity.

This is a good opportunity to try plant-based ingredients which are friendly to greenhouse gas reduction as if a familiar dietary option. Such additional menu items with positive effects on health and diet will enrich your daily college life.

We look forward to tasting and hearing from as many of you as possible. Thank you for your continued support.

*If you have actually tried it, please fill out the following questionnaire. We will discuss with the Co-op for future offerings based on your feedback.
