2024年12月16日更新

We held a Study Session on Imperfect Vegetables: "Sharing Table Ochanomizu University"
(written by Imperfect Vegetables PJ, OCHA-SDGs Student Committee)

An event to deepen understanding of imperfect vegetables was held on the 3rd floor of Hisao&Hiroko TAKI PLAZA on Sunday, December 15, 2024.

Based on interviews conducted with farmers this summer regarding the use of imperfect vegetables, we clarified several issues related to their use. This event was planned to provide consumers with an opportunity to learn more about the producers.

We invited up to 20 students, faculty, staff, students from affiliated schools, and parents to participate, and 17 people attended.

Event Outline

【Date】 Sunday, December 15, 2024 10:00-14:00 JST
【Venue】 Ochanomizu University Hisao&Hiroko TAKI PLAZA 3F Seminar Room/Open Space
【Contents】

  • Prior learning on imperfect vegetables
  • Online interview with the representative of Sasaki Farm, a Hokkaido Toyako Town limited company that practices natural farming
  • Workshop to touch imperfect vegetables
  • Time to have a light meal using vegetables from Sasaki Farm
  • University Student Dialogue “What We Can Do in the City”
  • 本イベントのポスター(Poster created by the student committee member)

The event began with a lecture in which participants were thinking of learning things such as 'What is a standard?' and 'What factors can cause "imperfect(non-standard)" vegetables'? After that, we had time to touch imperfect vegetables and fully taste with five senses.

For lunchtime, visitors were served Buddha Bowls (vegetarian rice bowls) made with organic vegetables from the Sasaki Farm and supervised by Meguriya, a cafe in Lake Toya.

Participants shared opinions such as, 'Learning about environmental and food/agricultural issues used to make me feel helpless, as though I couldn’t live in this world, but now I understand the importance and gratitude of forming a community with like-minded people.' Another said, 'Knowing who is involved in producing vegetables and making thoughtful choices will add an enjoyable aspect to my diet.'

We will continue to create opportunities to deepen people's understanding of imperfect vegetables based on the results of our interview survey.

Thank you very much for your participation and cooperation.
