Report on the Wai Gaya meetings with Seven & i Holdings Co.
The University and Seven & i Holdings Co., Ltd. signed a comprehensive collaborative agreement on SDGs on September 26, 2022. Under this agreement, the institute and OCHA-SDGs Student Committee are engaged in various SDG-related initiatives with the company.
As part of the many collaborated activities in FY2023, the institute and Seven & i held a "Wai Gaya Kai" (“Wai Gaya” meetings) where students could freely discuss issues with members of Seven & i.
The discussions focused on how to solve various problems related to the SDGs through eight meetings on April 19 (Wednesday), May 12 (Friday), June 9 (Friday), July 14 (Friday), August 10 (Thursday), September 8 (Friday), October 20 (Friday), and November 17 (Friday), 2023.
Seven & i members and student committee members came to the common issue that they needed to make their "SDGs promotion activities" known to people inside and outside the company, inside and outside the university.
To publicize its activities both internally and externally, OCHA-SDGs Student Committee considered participating in the Tokyo Biennale 2023 proposed by Seven & i, as well as developing a menu for "Recipes for the Wise (賢者のレシピ)".
In addition, members from Seven & i Food Systems Co., Ltd. introduced the students about the company's initiatives like mottECO (activities to encourage people to take home leftover food) and the food recycling loop at Denny's, one of the largest family restaurants in Japan.
They shared with students the difficulties they faced in implementing the programs and the challenges they faced in spreading them further. We are able to use such episodes as a reference for our promotion activities at the university.
*This case is also reported on pp.51-52 of Activity Report(J).
