2024年5月7日更新

Sustainability Week 2024 was held
(written by OCHA-SDGs Student Committee)

Sustainability Week 2024(J), an SDGs event in collaboration with other universities, was held from April 22 (Mon) to April 27 (Sat).

The theme of the event was to make a week to think about the SDGs as a personal matter, with the main objectives of (1) developing human resources who are concerned about the global environment, (2) exchanges across university boundaries, and (3) communicating the SDGs to society.

Since September of last year, Japan Sustainable University Network was formed by student organizations from four universities: UTokyoGXSN (University of Tokyo), Plastic Waste Reduction Team (Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology), ECHO-UT (University of Tsukuba), and OCHA-SDGs Student Committee (Ochanomizu University). We, students from Japan Sustainable University Network, have been prepared for this event as a co-host.

The University of Tokyo, TUAT Faculty of Agriculture, University of Tsukuba, Institute for SDGs Promotion of Ochanomizu University, and each university's Co-ops and libraries also supported this event.

Sustainability Talks (lectures) and Boomerang Workshops were held as projects common with the four universities. At Ochanomizu University, eight professors and two members of the Ministry of the Environment's "Deco-Katsu(decarbonization activities)" Supporting Team gave talks, and we were able to hear many very valuable research and stories related to the SDGs. A total of nearly 70 people attended the event, both in person and online.

The workshop was mainly devised by UTokyoGXSN and the word "boomerang" means "the impact of people's activities comes back to the people as a result".

In addition, each university held its own events. OCHA-SDGs Student Committee carried out SDGs book exhibition at the university's library and plant-based food sale at the co-op cafeteria. The plant-based food was a collaborative project with Ochas (the university's official club), and more than 300 meales were sold.

On the last day, student organizations from several universities other than the four universities gathered face-to-face for an inter-university exchange event, where they were able to build relationships with students from other universities through Climate Fresk, a card game that helps students understand environmental issues in a systematic way.

We would like to continue to develop this event valuing the connections with students from other universities. We would also like to make use of the results of each projects in our activities of this year and beyond. Thank you very much to everyone who cooperated and participated in this event.
